About Me

One of God's sheep who has moved to different pastures. Sometimes they seem greener and other times not so green. But my Shepherd is always there for me.

Eyes Wide Open

This was a post I made in March of 2008, it came to my mind today as I was walking with Heidi in the freshly falling snow. As I passed the trees that applauded me in the rain several weeks ago another sound was coming from them. It sounded like water rushing over small pebbles in a stream. I stopped and listened. I looked around and saw God's handiwork in the fields and trees, even in the goats eating their breakfast in the early morning snow. It was quiet, worshipful, I just stood in awe and remembered my brother Jimmy and how I needed to see the world for him.Sometimes I get busy and forget.

Eyes wide open

Not long ago, I was looking out of a plane window to the land below. Tears came to my eyes as I was thinking of my brother Jimmy who was fighting bone cancer. I had just left him in what would be my last visit with him. My thoughts were that he would never see the ground from this high, silly thoughts. When I got home life changed for me. I looked at the sky for longer periods of time. Noticed the stars in the darkness. I noticed the worms in the soil while working in the garden. I noticed the different greens of the trees. Before, the sky held no wonder, dirt was dirt, and there was only one color of trees. One day it it hit me, I was seeing the world for Jimmy.

First time ever

This is a first for me. I have never ever been on a diet. I have been told that what I will be doing isn't a diet but a lifestyle. Right now it is a diet. No Sugar No flour. I have never been one for sweets would rather have broccoli with cheese than a piece of cake. But right now I am craving brownies that are sitting in the pantry waiting for me to bake them and eat them all at one gulp. This is only our second day.

It's a snow day. One of those days when you are supposed to make comfort food and lay around and eat it all day. You can't make comfort food without flour. This may be one of the hardest things I have done in a long while. I even bought a avocado yesterday at the store. I have never ever eaten one, but plan on using it in a recipe. Maybe this will get me ready for our trip to Ecuador. If I can eat strange things here I will be fine there. Strange as in fish, vegetables besides carrots and lettuce.

So far I have had two real breakfasts in the morning, something I hardly ever do. It was hard going to the grocery store without my coupons. It was very hard passing up the free stuff my coupons would of gotten me. But alas most of the coupon stuff has flour and sugar in it. It was hard to go thru the register line and pay 37.00 for my stuff when I am used to paying 12.00 for 79.00 worth of stuff with my coupons. It was also strange that my cart didn't seem very full, but it was colorful. There were no boxes to fill the space just round and lumpy fruit and veggies. No more mother lodes like this one.

This is going to be an adventure.
